From the Path: Today’s Reflections

I woke up homesick today. Nothing happened. That was almost what made it worse. I opened my eyes and simply wanted my own bed, my dog curled up beside me, my favorite tea, and a morning in which I understood everything happening around me without having to think about it. I stayed in my room much longer than I intended.

By afternoon, I had convinced myself that I wasn't really missing anything. I could go out tomorrow. I had already seen so much. One quiet day wasn't going to matter.

Yet... I did finally go get something to eat, and the woman at the desk asked where I had been. When I told her I wasn't feeling particularly adventurous today, she pointed outside and told me there was a small market happening nearby that only came through occasionally.

I almost said no. I don't know why that caught me. Maybe because I suddenly realized how much of the day I had spent sitting inside a feeling as though nothing existed beyond it. So... I went upstairs, grabbed my bag, and left.

I was still homesick when I stepped outside. The feeling hadn't gone anywhere. I wandered through the market anyway, bought some fruit I had never tried before, and eventually found a cup of tea that reminded me of home. I sat there drinking it and realized I could miss home and still be here.

Artwork note

The artwork for this first edition of Quni Samiyuq was created with generative AI under my direction. I developed the concept, symbolism, composition, and visual direction for each card through an iterative process.
